Mosquito Lagoon Paddlers Upcoming Events

Please keep in mind that the club requires that each participant wear a properly fastened PFD. The Coast Guard also requires that every paddler must have a whistle. Always bring plenty of food and water for yourself. Because the club is affiliated with the American Canoe Association (ACA), each paddler must have a current liability waiver on file with the ACA.  Non-members, in addition to filling out a waiver, must also pay $5.00, which is remitted to the ACA for liability insurance coverage. Non-members may participate in up to three (3) day paddle trips to see if they like club activities before they decide to  join as a member.

Our trips are rated on a 1 to 5 scale with 1 being the easiest and 5 being the most intense. Expect every paddle to have its dangers and decide if it is right for you and your skill level. Most of all, plan to come and have a great time!

Wanna lead a trip
?
All trip leaders must take an orientation session before leading.  For more information contact Ken Knapton at kayakinkenk@aol.com .

IMPORTANT!!!    RSVP IS REQUIRED ON ALL PADDLES.

PLEASE LET TRIP LEADER KNOW IF YOU PLAN ON COMING TO A PADDLE SO HE OR SHE CAN CONTACT YOU  IN THE EVENT OF A CANCELLATION.

April 12 Saturday -  Greenland-style II: Intermediate Skills. Training Session with world known Greenland  Kayaker Instructor and Explorer  Greg Stamer. Class size is limited to 6. Class is Full. This is an all day session.
A review of the canted-blade forward stroke and many of the items in Greenland I, especially low braces.
We'll enjoy a game of "sharky" to test and improve your bracing skills.
Side sculling workshop. For this high-brace technique we will split into pairs
and work in teams. In Greenland-style, side sculling often takes the place of
an extreme high-brace and is also a precursor to the roll. It is a “keystone”
technique that once learned enables you to progress quickly into a static brace
(balance brace) and a standard (layback) roll.
Chest sculling (precursor to forward leaning rolls).
Standard roll.
Time permitting there we’ll have a "rolling jam session" and we’ll work on a variety of Greenland rolls and
skills per participants’ interest.
